Two Daughters Left Behind After a Tree Crushed Them in Mendoza: How the Accident Happened and Ema’s Heartbreaking Letter

6 August 2026

The tragedy struck on Saturday and shocked Mendoza. The family had travelled to San Rafael to pick up Bianca, who had been taking part in a hockey activity. The return was meant to be part of a special day for the teenager, who was turning 15 that day.

But the journey ended in the worst possible way when a tree collapsed onto the vehicle they were traveling in.

How the accident happened in San Carlos

The incident occurred on National Route 143, near San Carlos, while Mendoza was under a yellow wind alert known as Zonda.

According to information published by Diario UNO, the couple was traveling in a car with Bianca, 15, and Andrea Roxana Fariña, 52.

At a certain moment, a tree fell onto the front part of the car. The impact killed Fabio Germán Pompei, 46, and Fabiana Piedi, also 46.

The two women who were in the back seat survived and were transported for medical attention. Bianca and Fariña remain hospitalized.

The family, based in Chacras de Coria, had embarked on the trip to fetch the teenager after her hockey activity in San Rafael.

Bianca was travelling with her parents and that day she turned 15

One of the most painful details of the tragedy is that Bianca was inside the car when the accident occurred.

The teenager is 15 years old and that very Saturday she was celebrating a birthday. The family had travelled to San Rafael to fetch her after a hockey activity and were on their way back when the crash happened.

What should have been a special day for the young woman ended with the death of her two parents. Bianca survived the impact and remains hospitalized along with Andrea Fariña, the other woman who was travelling in the car.

Who is Ema, the couple’s elder daughter

Fabio and Fabiana had two daughters. Ema is the older one and she was not in the car when the tragedy occurred.

After the death of her parents, the teenager chose to bid them farewell publicly through a letter she shared on social media.

The message was posted four days after the accident and quickly moved those who read it.

“Today I struggle to find the words to talk about you. There are pains so big they cannot fit into any sentence, and losing both of you is a pain I still don’t know how to explain,” she began.

Ema remembered her parents as the people who always stood by her side and as her safe place.

“They never left me alone and were always there for me. I don’t know how to go on when the two most important people in my life are gone,” she wrote.

“My parents built me a golden cradle”

In one of the most emotional parts of the letter, Ema spoke about the effort her parents had made to give her and her sister as much as they could.

“I always said I wasn’t born in a golden cradle, but my parents gradually built one for me, with a lot of effort and sacrifice,” she wrote.

The teenager also spoke of all the things she will now miss in everyday life with Fabio and Fabiana.

“I will miss you in the smallest things, in a hug, in a look, in coming home and knowing you were there,” she expressed.

And she added: “I will miss being able to tell you about my things, my day, asking for your advice and, above all, having you with me.”

“I will learn to live carrying your love with me”

In her farewell, Ema thanked her parents for the love and support she received throughout her life.

“Thank you for always giving everything for me. Thank you for being my parents. Thank you for loving me,” she wrote.

The young woman also acknowledged that she still does not know how to cope with a loss of such magnitude, but she pledged to carry her parents’ love with her.

“I will love you for my whole life and, even if I don’t know how to do it today, I will learn to live carrying your love with me,” she stated.

The letter ended with one final farewell:

“I miss you. I love you with all that I am. And I will carry you with me forever. I hope you are in a beautiful place and watch over us like the angels you are.”

The tragedy happened in a matter of seconds, during a trip that aimed to fetch Bianca after her sports activity and coincided with her 15th birthday. Fabio and Fabiana died on impact, while Bianca and Andrea Fariña survived and remain hospitalized.

Ema, from another vantage point, faced a loss she tried to articulate in a letter dedicated to her parents. Two sisters who experienced the same tragedy in different ways and who now must face a life forever marked by the deaths of Fabio and Fabiana.
