During the day on Thursday, October 8, family members, friends and various figures from the entertainment world gathered to bid Piero farewell, after the sad news of his passing on Wednesday at the age of 81 became known.
In Casa O’Higgins, moments of deep sensitivity, reflection, and homage were felt. Among the closest relatives were present Juan de Benedictis, the renowned artist’s son, along with his daughters, among whom was Ámbar, the fruit of his relationship with Juana Viale.
The young woman arrived at the venue visibly moved by the loss of her paternal grandfather, wearing a hood and keeping her gaze fixed on the floor as she entered.

For his part, Juan entered with a thermos in hand, trying to remain solemn in front of the cameras amid such a delicate moment for his intimate circle.

The Moving Musical Tribute: “Mi Viejo” Resounded at the Farewell
Despite the sobriety with which he carried himself during the entrance, the way Juan chose to pay tribute to his father moved everyone present.
During the ceremony, Fiorella de Benedictis, also Piero’s daughter, and the musician sang the verses of “Mi Viejo”, the emblematic and unforgettable song composed and performed by Piero in 1969.
The work, which pays homage to fatherhood, to the passage of time, and to the endearing complexity of intergenerational bonds, created a mood of nostalgia that culminated in an unforgettable ovation from all those present.
Juan’s Low Profile and the Endearing Bond Between Piero and His Granddaughter Ámbar
Unlike other members of his family, Juan chose to stay historically on the margins of media exposure. His childhood was marked by Argentina’s complex political context, living in exile in Spain with his father until the return of democracy in 1983.
In 2002 he met Juana Viale, and the following year Ámbar was born. Although the couple separated shortly after, they built a healthy relationship and steady support in raising their daughter.
That reserved environment did not prevent Ámbar from developing a very special connection with her paternal grandfather. In an interview given in 2018, Piero himself fondly remembered how his eldest granddaughter identified with his famous work Unfinished Symphony at Sea.
Back then, when the young woman attended the French school, she chose her grandfather to perform a school musical presentation. The singer-songwriter attended with his son Juan and his granddaughters, ending all four on stage singing before the entire school community.
Today, from silence and introspection, Ámbar and Juan bid farewell to the man who not only left an indelible mark on popular music, but also in the heart of his family.
