Amalia, Alexia y Ariane showed off their gala looks at Prinsjesdag 2026, where two of them wore garments and accessories that Máxima had previously worn.

Amalia, Alexia and Ariane: three looks for a gala day

Historical carriages, gala dresses, hats and a lot of protocol. Prinsjesdag 2026, the traditional Dutch Prinsjesdag celebration, once again turned The Hague’s streets into the stage for one of the royal family’s most anticipated appearances.

At 19, 21 and 22 years old, the princesses Ariane, Alexia and Amalia joined their parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, on a day that officially opens the new parliamentary year in the Netherlands. And, as every year, their fashion choices drew all the attention.

This time, moreover, there was a detail that connected their ensembles to their mother’s wardrobe: both Alexia and Ariane wore pieces Máxima had already worn in previous years.

Alexia elevates her green dress with accessories

Princess Alexia chose a petroleum-green dress with clean lines. A sleeveless Reiss design with a long fall, to which she added a kind of cape or piece of fabric draping over the shoulders and back.

<p class=The look’s standout detail is precisely the accessories: they bring character and color to a base garment that is otherwise understated.

Alexia chose a Maison Michel hat, leather gloves and a burgundy pouch-style clutch from COS. The ensemble creates a striking contrast with the dress’s shade and elevates the accessories to a leading role.

The choice works precisely because of that interplay of opposites: a simple, neutral silhouette as a starting point and a set of accessories in a deep hue that give the outfit its identity.

Among them, there is also a detail with family history. The hat had already been worn by Máxima in 2018, so Alexia incorporated a piece from her mother’s wardrobe into her own proposal.

Amalia revived a dress Máxima wore in 2019

The heir to the throne chose for Prinsjesdag 2026 a dress Máxima had worn previously on the same occasion, in 2019. In the photos one can see a long silhouette in an olive green shade, paired with the ceremonial sash and olive suede stiletto heels.

She wore her hair long with softly defined waves and a headband that Máxima had worn in 2017 and which had been specially adapted for Amalia.

Ariane opted for a burgundy gala dress

For her part, Princess Amalia chose a burgundy gown with a long silhouette, which she complemented with a small cape or overlay in the same shade, crafted with a texture of tiny details.

The color repeats in other elements of the look, such as the gloves and the hat, creating a monochromatic proposal with a strong visual impact. The dress is completed with the blue and yellow sash crossing the torso and the insignias corresponding to the occasion.

For accessories, Amalia wore a Saint Laurent clutch and pumps, according to the details published alongside the look’s images.

The result blends the solemnity demanded by Prinsjesdag with an intense color choice, in harmony with the ceremonial nature of the day.

Máxima’s wardrobe also inspires her daughters

That Amalia, Alexia and Ariane turn to Máxima’s garments and accessories isn’t new within the family. But on this Prinsjesdag the gesture was once again especially visible.

Alexia took the hat her mother wore in 2018 and made it one of the central elements of her own look. Ariane, by contrast, wore a dress Máxima had worn during Prinsjesdag 2019 and a hat that had been part of her mother’s wardrobe.

There is something interesting about this way of sharing clothes within the House of Orange: the pieces don’t appear as an exact repeat of the original look, but rather find a new combination in the hands of the princesses.

And in Alexia’s case, it’s clear. The gray dress serves as a contained base, while the burgundy hat, gloves and clutch build the look’s most personal gesture.

On a day steeped in tradition and protocol, the three princesses thus offered different ways of understanding gala fashion: Amalia through the impact of color, Alexia through the play of accessories, and Ariane through the revival of pieces with family history.
