The Brazilian actress Theresa Fonseca chose for her wedding a gown that bridges two worlds: the history of fashion and one of cinema’s great icons.
The actress married Gustav von Fürstenberg on Saturday, August 15, in a celebration held in Angra dos Reis, Brazil. The religious ceremony took place at Nossa Senhora do Rosário e São Benedito Church, in Paraty, while the party was held at Praia do Frade.
The celebration gathered around 350 guests, including about 120 arriving from Germany and other countries, in a wedding that blended the groom’s German roots with the bride’s Brazilian spirit.
But, without a doubt, one of the day’s leading protagonists was Theresa’s wedding dress.

A Givenchy design inspired by Audrey Hepburn

To say yes, Theresa chose a special creation from Givenchy Haute Couture, made to measure and based on a historic piece from the maison.

The design drew inspiration from look 21 of the Autumn-Winter 1997 Haute Couture collection, created by Alexander McQueen during his time at Givenchy.

But the inspiration goes even further back: the proposal retrieved the aesthetic of the dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in My Fair Lady, one of the actress’s most memorable films and also one of the great benchmarks of cinematic fashion.

Thus, Theresa’s dress functioned as a contemporary reinterpretation of a design that already forms part of fashion’s collective imagination.
1,400 hours of work to create the dress

The Haute Couture piece was made especially for Theresa and required approximately 1,400 hours of work.

The result was a creation that recovered elements of a historic Givenchy piece and adapted them for a contemporary bride, maintaining the link with the elegant and theatrical aesthetic that characterized designs associated with Audrey Hepburn.

The choice also carries a special meaning because Givenchy and Hepburn built one of the most emblematic relationships between an actress and a fashion designer.
Theresa Fonseca and a cine-inspired bride
With this dress, Theresa Fonseca opted for a bride far from the most ephemeral trends and chose, instead, a piece with history and a strong cinematic reference.
The inspiration from My Fair Lady turned her bridal look into a true homage to Audrey Hepburn, while Givenchy’s involvement allowed updating that aesthetic for a contemporary wedding.

The result: a Haute Couture bride who revived a fashion icon and made it the centerpiece of her own love story.
