The young Australian had only just begun her professional career a few months earlier and had quickly become one of golf’s brightest prospects. In February she won her first tournament in just her fifth appearance and set a course record.
Jessica Bang was 18 years old and her career was just getting started when a medical emergency abruptly interrupted her path in golf. The young Australian prodigy died this Thursday after suffering a brain hemorrhage while in Bangkok, Thailand, to participate in a qualifying tournament.
Bang had collapsed on August 1, as she prepared to compete in the International Qualifying Tournament of the KLPGA, the South Korean women’s professional golf circuit. She was rushed to Synphat Ramintra Hospital, where she underwent brain surgery and remained in intensive care.
