Diego Ramos Remembers Ernestina Pais for Her Battle with Addiction on La Noche de Mirtha

6 July 2026

The death of Ernestina Pais continues to shock the entertainment world. More than a week after her passing, colleagues and friends keep remembering her warmly and highlighting the legacy she left behind. In that context, Diego Ramos offered some emotional words during his appearance on La noche de Mirtha (El Trece), where he highlighted the courage with which the host publicly spoke about her struggle with addiction.

The journalist and host died at 54 years old after the accident she suffered when the car she was driving was struck by a Tren de la Costa train at a level crossing in San Isidro.

Diego Ramos’ Tribute to Ernestina Pais

During the program, Mirtha Legrand spoke of Ernestina with deep respect and highlighted one of the phrases the broadcaster had shared some time earlier, referring to the message she wanted to convey to her son, Benicio Guyot.

The most important thing you can leave to a child is that if you fight, you will be able to overcome it,” Pais had expressed. Building on that memory, Ramos, who shared the stage with her in the play The Divorce of the Year, directed by José María Muscari, reflected on the importance of talking about mental health and understanding addictions without prejudice.

“Those efforts to spread the message that you can get out… To ask for help from others. It also helps all of us who don’t have that problem to understand that mental health is health too and that we cannot crucify someone who has an addiction,” the actor stated.

Then he added a deep reflection. “If we don’t treat a person who is down because they have an illness badly, why would we treat badly someone who really cannot control their mind and whose feelings end up dominating them?”, he expressed.
