Winter Getaways: 3 Wineries Near Buenos Aires for a Mountain, Sea, and Countryside Escape

15 July 2026

Among the humid countryside air, the mountains, the sea breeze, and the birdsong, a new wine landscape is growing. It isn’t at the foot of the Andes nor does it require thousands of kilometers to surprise: it is located right in the province of Buenos Aires.

During the winter holidays, which this year will span from July 20 to July 31 in Buenos Aires province and in the City of Buenos Aires, Tandil, Chapadmalal, and Paraje Macedo emerge as three ideal destinations to plan a different getaway.

Young vineyards, boutique wineries, and limited productions invite exchanging the city noise for the sound of wind among the rows. In these corners, wine does not try to imitate Mendoza’s traditional postcards: it builds its own identity, shaped by the mountains, the ocean, and the humid pampas.

Cordón Blanco: wine, mountains, and family spirit in Tandil

About 350 kilometers from the City of Buenos Aires, Tandil offers much more than salami, cheeses, and walks along its traditional hills. Among the undulations of the serrated landscape lies Cordón Blanco, a family winery that was a pioneer in winemaking in the city.

The story began when Matías Lucas was undergoing enology-related training. There, a professor told him that Tandil’s conditions could be compared to those of southwestern France. The remark became an idea, and in 2008 Matías planted the project’s first vineyard with his brothers.

Cordón Blanco

“In 2013 we planted the second vineyard in Don Bosco, 14 kilometers from the first, a result of seeking different soil within the locality. We created more thoughtful and definitive varieties,” recalled the owner.

Cordón Blanco produced its first Tandil wine in 2012 and works with varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Carmenere. Their vines grow at about 260 meters above sea level, in soils with a pronounced presence of granite and under the region’s particular humidity and wind conditions.

The winery offers tours through the vineyard and facilities, accompanied by explanations about the soil, the climate, and the production process. The experience concludes with a tasting that allows sampling between one and four wines.

The young Cabernet Franc is one of the most popular, though the house also offers a line of reserves with oak and concrete aging. They are fresh wines, with good acidity and a personality that expresses the serrano landscape.

The perfect plan to round out the day

Recorrer bodegas, una propuesta para estas vacaciones de invierno

After the visit, the escape can continue with a horseback ride around the surroundings of Tandil. Some proposals include stories about the area’s history, geology, flora and fauna, plus a bonfire with regional cuisine and guitar music.

During July, visits to Cordón Blanco take place from Tuesday to Friday at 11; Saturdays at 11:30 and 15; and Sundays at 11. Entrance requires a prior reservation and spaces are limited. The winery is located at Galicia 1150.

Trapiche Chapadmalal: wine born near the sea

In Chapadmalal, wine changes its landscape. There are no mountains, Andean terraces, or dry high-altitude air. There is flat land, wind, humidity, and dawns with the scent of damp sand.

Very close to Mar del Plata lies Costa & Pampa, from Bodega Trapiche, a project that made the maritime climate its main hallmark of identity.

“Each bottle reflects the unique character of our maritime climate and the commitment of our entire team to delivering wines of excellence,” explained the winery’s winemaker.

The project began in 2015 and opened a new door for viticulture on the Atlantic Coast. The wind helps develop thicker skins in the grapes, a feature that adds aromatic intensity. The result is fresh, expressive wines with vibrant acidity, especially well-suited to accompany fish, shellfish, and other flavors of coastal cuisine.

Visiting Trapiche Chapadmalal is not just about tasting a glass. The experience combines a tour of the vineyards, a visit to the winery, different tasting options, and the possibility of lunch or enjoying gastronomic offerings within the premises.

The landscape invites you to stay without rushing: walk among the vines, watch how the sky changes over the countryside, and discover that the ocean can also be felt in a wine.

During July, Costa & Pampa announced that guided tours are offered daily, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. As schedules, prices, and proposals may vary, it is advisable to book before traveling. The winery is located on Avenida Antártida Argentina, kilometer 16, in Chapadmalal.

Antiguo Legado: a winery with memory in Paraje Macedo

In the General Madariaga district, about 30 kilometers from the sea, the small Paraje Macedo seems to maintain another rhythm. Between rural roads, open fields, and an old railway station sits Antiguo Legado, a family winery built step by step.

The vines grow in the humid pampas, amid dew and the Buenos Aires breeze. There, young and expressive wines are produced, including Pinot Noir and Rosé.

The visit allows walking among the rows, learning the production process, and entering the winery. The tour ends with one of the most anticipated moments: a wine tasting paired with a platter of cheeses and cold cuts.

Antiguo Legado does not seek to impress with grand constructions. Its charm lies in proximity: listening to those who work the land, learning the decisions behind each bottle, and sharing a glass in a place where time seems to move more slowly.

Macedo is about 331 kilometers from the City of Buenos Aires and roughly 30 kilometers from the coast. Because it is a rural area and an experience with limited slots, it is important to check road conditions and coordinate the visit before departing. The winery accepts inquiries and reservations through its account @antiguo_legado.

A wine route with Buenos Aires province identity

Buenos Aires wines do not need to imitate other regions. In Tandil they speak of granite soils and mountains; in Chapadmalal, of wind and the proximity to the Atlantic; and in Macedo, of the humidity of the countryside and a family tradition that is beginning to write its own story.

They are three getaways to discover that you don’t have to go far to change landscapes. Just take the road, slow down, and let the province show another of its faces.

Because here wine is not only what is served in the glass. It is the journey among the vines, the conversation with its producers, the shared platter, and that moment when the winter chill becomes a good excuse to toast.

Important note: Alcohol tastings are strictly for adults 18 years and older. Before traveling, it is recommended to check availability, prices, access conditions, and book directly with each establishment.
