A 17-year-old girl is found murdered in a vacant lot. The police investigation fails to identify the culprit, and, as time passes, the crime becomes a wound that each member of the family tries to bear in their own way.

That is the starting point of Catedrales, the Prime Video series based on Claudia Piñeiro’s novel of the same name. The production premiered on September 16 and managed to enter among the platform’s most-watched contents, both in Argentina and in the global ranking of original productions.
What Catedrales Is About
The story begins in 1986, when Ana Sardá, the youngest daughter of a deeply Catholic family, is found murdered, burned, and dismembered in a middle-class neighborhood of Santiago de Chile.

The crime remains unsolved due to investigative failures. Thirty years later, Lia, one of Ana’s sisters, returns from Europe to bid farewell to her ailing father. Her return also reopens the questions the family had kept beneath layers of faith, guilt, and silence.
From that return begins the reconstruction of the case. The new clues point toward a forbidden relationship and a truth capable of changing everything the Sardá family believed they knew about Ana and themselves.

A Mystery Narrated in Two Timelines
The adaptation moves between 1986 and 2016. The past allows following the days leading up to Ana’s murder; the present shows Lia trying to piece together what has been scattered for three decades.

This dialogue between eras prevents the series from functioning solely as a police investigation. The crime also allows exploring family expectations, religious fanaticism, secrets, and the consequences of what is chosen to be kept silent.
Although Piñeiro’s novel is set in Argentina, the production relocates the plot to Santiago de Chile and builds the Sardá family story there. The series is directed by Chilean filmmaker Pepa San Martín and Argentine Fabiana Tiscornia.

The Cast of the Series Based on Claudia Piñeiro
The cast brings together renowned figures of Chilean and Argentine acting. Alfredo Castro and Paulina García portray the parents of the family, while Ignacia Baeza, Amparo Noguera, Vivianne Dietz, Paula Luchsinger and Octavia Bernasconi play various characters and stages of this story.

Also featuring Marcelo Alonso, Muriel Santa Ana, Giordano Rossi, Carolina Kopelioff and Clemente Rodríguez, among others.
The ensemble construction is essential: each character holds a piece of the puzzle and offers a different view of Ana, her family and the events surrounding her death.

How Many Episodes Does “Catedrales” Have
Catedrales has six episodes, with durations that range roughly from 38 to 47 minutes. The entire season is available on Prime Video.

The concise format allows watching it in full over a weekend. Yet the story promises an intense experience: it tackles violence, religion, the expectations and silences of family life from a dark plot that leads toward a painful revelation.
More than simply asking who killed Ana, Catedrales observes what happens when a family builds its life around what it cannot — or does not want — to say.
