Staying in Buenos Aires during a long weekend can also become a mini getaway. And for those who have not yet made plans, from Saturday the 15th to Monday the 17th of August there is a particularly appealing lineup, with many options free of charge.
There are choices for going with friends, as a couple, or with family and, coinciding with Children’s Day on Sunday the 16th, there are also options designed especially for the little ones.
1. PUMA Suede Studio: fashion, music and urban culture in Palermo
One of the weekend’s more distinctive plans comes courtesy of PUMA, which will open the doors to Suede Studio, an experience built around one of the brand’s most iconic models.
It will take place on Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of August from 4:00 p.m. at La Pour House, Gorriti 5121, Palermo. Over the two days there will be talks on trends, fashion, and the history of Suede, live art performances, DJ sets, and a sneaker-cleaning and care demonstration led by Shoter.
The concept stems from the Never Not Suede campaign and invites attendees to trace the evolution of a sneaker from its sports origins to its status as a symbol of street style and urban culture.
Practical note: the brand’s press release states that the space will be open to the public, though it does not specify entry requirements, so it’s worth checking before attending. The event is announced at La Pour House, Gorriti 5121.
2. Sabe la Tierra returns to Recoleta with a two-day edition
For those who prefer an outdoor plan, Sabe la Tierra lands at Plaza Emilio Mitre during both weekend days.
There will be around 50 offerings spanning gastronomy, artisanal foods, natural cosmetics, well-being, designer home goods, decor, fashion, and textiles.

3. A concert of rock classics in a palace
Rock at the National Museum of Decorative Arts? Yes. The Rock Choir marks its tenth anniversary with new versions of major rock and international pop standards.
The performance will take place in the museum’s grand hall, one of the most spectacular interiors in Buenos Aires.

4. World music a cappella in Belgrano
Another free musical option is the performance by Unocteto, an eight-member ensemble that takes listeners on a sonic journey across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia solely through voice.
The repertoire ranges from El día que me quieras and Zamba de usted to traditional tunes from Sweden, South Africa, Mexico and Indonesia.

5. A full weekend to rediscover the National Museum of Fine Arts
The National Museum of Fine Arts offers several free activities that allow you to tailor the day to age and interests.
On Saturday there will be tours of Bellas Artes 130; on Saturday and Sunday at 5:00 p.m. there will be the family activity “Where do stories live?”. On Sunday the 16th, at 4:00 p.m., there will also be a session focused on the dialogue between Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, and at 6:00 p.m. a tour about light and color in French Impressionism.

6. The grand Guillermo Kuitca exhibition that can be visited for free
Another must-see for art lovers is right in the heart of the downtown area. ArtHaus brings together for the first time the complete series Diarios 2000-2025, by Guillermo Kuitca, made up of 45 works that function as an intimate record of more than three decades of the artist’s work.
The exhibition can be toured on Saturday and Sunday and, in addition, on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays there are guided tours at 5 p.m.

7. Free choral gathering at the Museo Roca
On Sunday there is also a plan ideal for those seeking a quiet indoor activity.

8. Mataderos Fair: folklore, crafts and Argentine flavors
A classic that always works for a different kind of Sunday is the Mataderos Fair.

It operates on Sundays and patriotic holidays, from 11:00 to 18:00, making it an especially appealing option for this long weekend.

The museum provides materials, though those who wish may also bring their own.
