TN Journalist Julio Bazán Turns 80, Celebrates With Family in Emotional Post by Daughter Jazmín

7 October 2026

Julio Bazán reached 80 years old and shared with his followers a small postcard of a very special date. The veteran journalist and chronicler for TN published a photo in which he is seen smiling, blowing out the candles in front of a cake bearing the number 80, and accompanied the image with a message of thanks for all the affection he received.

“I sincerely thank the congratulations and expressions of good wishes from so many dear people for my 80th birthday. They multiplied my joy,” he wrote in the post he shared on Sunday, October 5.

The scene is simple, but it conveys the festive mood that surrounded such a meaningful date for the journalist. After decades in front of cameras and in the streets covering news, this time Bazán chose to show a much more intimate moment: his birthday and the affection of the people who are part of his life.

A life dedicated to journalism

Bazán is one of the historic chroniclers of TN and eltrece and has spent decades working in television. In 2024 he celebrated his 40 years in the media and, throughout his career, he became one of the best-known faces of on-the-street journalism.

His career was marked by covering major political and social events and also by risky situations. In an interview with Clarín, when he was 77, he spoke about his bond with the craft and defined himself as an “eternal chronicler”.

But behind the figure who appeared on television for so many years lies a family story that grew and was built as his career advanced.

His love story and his three children

Julio Bazán has been married since 1975 to Adriana Rey, a journalism graduate and radio host. Together they formed a family and had three children: Emanuel, Ignacio and Jazmín. With the years, their granddaughter Candela also arrived.

Jazmín also followed in her father’s footsteps and pursued journalism. In 2025 she published an extensive profile about Julio in which she reconstructed different moments of his life and his professional trajectory.

In an interview with Clarín, Bazán also acknowledged that the intensity of his work had a personal cost: at various points in his career he spent a lot of time away from Buenos Aires and missed some important family moments, including his children’s graduations and his siblings’ weddings.

Nevertheless, the journalist always maintained his bond with the profession and with that task of going out into the street to tell stories.

The emotional message from his daughter Jazmín Bazán

The celebration of the 80th birthday also had a particularly emotive chapter on the social networks of his daughter Jazmín Bazán. The journalist shared new photos from the intimate celebration and left words full of admiration and affection for her dad.

“May time envy him. Eighty years is nothing. When I look at my father, life opens up.”, she wrote.

Among the images that accompanied the message there is one especially meaningful: a hug between father and daughter, which intimately captures the familial bond behind the journalist who for decades was used to telling other people’s stories on camera.

Jazmín’s post thus added another perspective to a celebration that, beyond the number, was marked by the affection of family and the people who accompanied Bazán throughout his life.

A birthday shaped by affection

As he turned 80, Bazán chose not to make a grand public bilan about his life. Instead, he kept to something much simpler and closer: to thank those who remembered him.

The photo in front of the cake, with the lit candles and the number 80, was the image that accompanied that message, summarizing the spirit of the celebration.

“They multiplied my joy.” he wrote.

After a life dedicated to telling the stories of others, this time Julio Bazán shared only a few lines about his own. A special birthday, surrounded by the affection of those who had accompanied him over the years and by a family that grew alongside his extensive journalism career.
