Chiche Gelblung is bid farewell this Wednesday by his family, friends, and colleagues, following his death at the age of 82. The farewell is taking place at the AMIA funeral hall, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa Crespo, where acquaintances close to the journalist began to arrive.
Among the first to approach was Gustavo Sofovich, who came to accompany the family in this moment of sorrow.

The images show the initial moments of the farewell of one of the most recognizable figures in Argentine journalism, who died after having faced various health issues and hospitalizations in recent months.

The journalist had remained hospitalized in intensive care at Los Arcos hospital, after being transferred from Mater Dei due to a respiratory condition.

The Final Weeks of Chiche Gelblung
Gelblung’s death came after a year particularly challenging for his health. In recent months he endured several hospitalizations and even spent 30 days in intensive care.

In June he had staged an emotional return to television in a wheelchair to reconnect with his program on Crónica TV. On that occasion, he also spoke about the difficult moment he had endured.

“The first doctor who saw me told me, ‘You are knocking on heaven’s doors’,” he had recounted when recalling one of the phrases he received during his hospitalization.
Despite the difficulties, Gelblung tried to remain active and maintain ties with journalism until the final months of his life.
Now, his loved ones and those who shared different stages of his long career gather to give him a final farewell.
