Together they had formed a family and were parents to three young children, who were left orphans after the tragedy.
A dream that began in his boyhood
Born on December 4, 1996 in Massarelos, near Porto, Diogo Jota began his footballing journey in the youth ranks of Paços de Ferreira. His knack for scoring quickly stood out, and while still very young he was signed by Atlético Madrid.
Although he never made an official debut with the Spanish club, he found his place first at Porto and then at Wolverhampton, where he truly blossomed. His pace, intelligence in movement inside the box, and goal-scoring ability drew the attention of Liverpool, which signed him in 2020.
With the English club’s shirt, he played 185 matches, scored 65 goals and won several titles, including a Premier League, two League Cups, an FA Cup, and a Community Shield.
With the Portugal national team he also left his mark. He earned 49 international caps, scored 14 goals, and won two editions of the UEFA Nations League.
