A few days before the premiere of Moria, the highly anticipated Netflix biopic about the life of Moria Casán, more behind‑the‑scenes details are emerging. On this occasion, Marco Antonio Caponi explained what it was like to portray Mario Castiglione, the actor and theater producer who was Moria’s partner and the father of her only daughter, Sofía Gala.
Caponi stopped by Sería increíble, Olga’s streaming cycle, and spoke about the process of building his character. In that context, he revealed that his first encounters with Sofía, who is also part of the production, were especially meaningful.
The Emotion of Sofía Gala Upon Seeing Marco Antonio Caponi as Her Dad
During the interview, Caponi explained that he arrived on set with a specific approach to constructing Mario Castiglione. However, Sofía Gala’s reaction ended up being one of the keys to deepening his interpretation.
“When I went to the set and arrived with this proposal, which was for the kind of fun-loving guy who laughed at everything, Sofía sees me and gets emotional and laughs at that,” the actor said.
Sofía’s reaction also confirmed to him that he had found some traits that resembled her father’s personality.
“It’s really strong and at the same time you think, ‘What more can I invent to make her believe I could be her father?’,” Caponi reflected on the challenge of portraying someone Sofía had known intimately and who is no longer here.
From there, the actress began sharing with him different memories and characteristics of her dad. “She kept telling me, ‘My dad did this,’ ‘My dad liked to do this,’ and then we started to ‘contaminate’ the portrayal with real anecdotes,” he explained.
Those family memories allowed him to add small details to the performance and build a character that wouldn’t be solely tied to fiction.
How Marco Antonio Caponi Built Mario Castiglione
Caponi also said that he sought to portray Castiglione from a sensitive angle, especially because of the bond he maintained with Moria and the role he played in Sofía Gala’s life.
“Tell it from a fragile, paternal, loving, and caring place. That was what she told me. She would say, ‘My dad was like that…,’ ‘He was a noble guy, a great father,’” he recalled.
In this way, Castiglione’s daughter’s memories became a fundamental tool for the actor to approach the person behind the character.

The result was a performance touched by sensitivity and by the perspective of someone who knew Mario deeply.
Who Was Mario Castiglione, Sofía Gala’s Father
Mario Castiglione was an actor and theater producer and he was in a relationship with Moria Casán, with whom he had her only daughter, Sofía Gala, born in 1987.
The couple met in the theater world and their bond was marked by an intense history. Moria recalled on several occasions the beginning of that relationship and the importance Castiglione had in her life.
“The first times we went to hotels, super clandestine, he didn’t do anything to me, he didn’t touch a hair on me, we talked about theology and it excited me so much,” the artist once recalled.

Moria and Castiglione married in 1986 and divorced in 1990. Over the years, they went through various conflicts and periods of estrangement, although the relationship continued to hold an important place in the actress’s personal history.
“Undoubtedly, Mario Castiglione, who left me my beloved daughter,” Moria stated when asked which of her partners had left the strongest impression on her.
Castiglione died in 2000, at 54 years old, from colon cancer.
Thus, Caponi revealed part of the process behind one of Moria’s most sensitive characters and explained how Sofía Gala’s memories were fundamental to giving life to her father on screen.
