The story of Alberto Cormillot and Mónika Arborgast began in the early 1960s, when the two met at Hospital Alemán. He was a young doctor freshly graduated, and she worked as a secretary. The spark was instant, and soon after they decided to marry.
In 1963 they exchanged vows and began a life together that also included the arrival of their two oldest children, René and Adrián. In the early years of their marriage, they also shared various trips, including a honeymoon that carried them through Mexico, the United States and several European cities.
But the couple separated in 1976. However, the end of their romantic relationship did not spell the end of the bond between them.
A separation that did not end the shared project
After the separation, Alberto and Mónika continued to work together. And they did so for decades, tied to the construction and growth of a project that would come to be a reference in the treatment of obesity in Argentina.
Mónika played a fundamental role in the clinic’s structure. Her work was connected to administration, accounting, coordination and the day-to-day operation of the institution.
In various interviews, Cormillot especially highlighted the trust he had in her and the role she played in developing that professional project.
The relationship between them, therefore, acquired a new dimension: they were no longer a couple, but they remained parents, colleagues and part of a story they had begun to build together.
Mónika, the “pillar” of the Cormillot Clinic
Nine years after her death, the institution itself once again spoke of the importance Mónika had in that history.
“Nine years after her passing, we remember Monika Cormillot, a fundamental pillar in the history of our Clinic,” the Clínica Cormillot posted on its social networks.
The message especially highlighted her personal and professional qualities: “With dedication, sensitivity, strength and an unwavering vocation, she accompanied and supported decisive moments, leaving a deep mark on those who had the opportunity to share the path with her.”
