Secrets, obsession, and a truth that grows increasingly hard to discern are the ingredients of “Verity: The Shadow of a Deception”, the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s literary phenomenon that will arrive in Argentine theaters on October 1.
The film brings together Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett to bring to screen a story that blends psychological suspense, desire, and manipulation. It is directed by Michael Showalter, with a screenplay by Nick Antosca, and is based on a novel that became a No. 1 bestseller on The New York Times list.
What Verity: The Shadow of a Deception Is About
Dakota Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a writer who is navigating a financial crunch when she receives a proposal hard to refuse: to finish the books of a successful series written by Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), a renowned author who, after an accident, cannot continue her work.
The proposal comes from Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett), Verity’s husband. To immerse herself in his creative world, Lowen moves into the family home and begins poring over years of notes, drafts, and writings by the author.
But amid all that material she discovers something that should never have fallen into her hands: unsettling autobiographical notes from Verity. From that discovery, the boundaries begin to blur, and Lowen becomes entangled in a plot where it becomes increasingly difficult to separate reality from fiction, manipulation from attraction.
