The death of Piero, at 81, left a profound mark on Argentine popular music and also on his family. Behind the singer-songwriter of unforgettable songs such as Mi viejo, Llegando llegaste, and Sinfonía inconclusa en la mar stood also a man very close to his children and granddaughters.
Among them was Ámbar de Benedictis, the daughter of Juana Viale and Juan de Benedictis, with whom Piero shared a special bond. Music, which had been the center of the artist’s life, was also one of the bridges that connected them and left some family memories that today take on a different meaning.
Piero’s Song That Won Over Ámbar de Benedictis
In an interview conducted in 2018, Piero spoke about his relationship with his grandchildren and recalled especially Ámbar, his eldest granddaughter, who was then 15 years old.

At that time, the young woman had a special connection with Sinfonía inconclusa en la mar, one of the singer-songwriter’s most remembered works. The album had emerged during a difficult period of his life and, over time, became one of his best-known works.
Piero had explained that the song that gave the album its name was the only one he had written, while the others belonged to Alejandro Mayol. With the passage of years, that work also became a meeting point between the musician and his granddaughter.

The Day Ámbar Invited Her Grandfather to Sing at the School
The relationship between the two also featured music as the protagonist of a very special memory.
When Ámbar attended a French school, she had to complete a project with a family member. She could choose among different artistic expressions, such as a story, a poem, or a song.
Ámbar chose music and decided to invite her grandfather to participate.

“Grandpa, don’t you want to come and sing a song?”, she asked.
The singer-songwriter agreed and went to the school accompanied by his son Juan and two of his granddaughters. The four ended up on stage, singing in front of the entire school.
For Piero, that moment represented much more than a school performance: it was also the possibility of sharing with his granddaughter one of the things that had run through his life.

The Photos Ámbar Shared of Piero on His 80th Birthday
Years later, Ámbar once again left a public record of the relationship she maintained with her grandfather.
On April 19, 2025, to celebrate Piero’s 80th birthday, she shared on her social networks various images of the singer. It was one of the few times she publicly revealed part of her family intimacy.

Among the photographs there was a black-and-white image of Piero, relaxed and reading a comic, taken by Ámbar herself. Also appeared were different corners of the family home: the garden, a black Labrador, and a room lit by a warm glow.
Far from the stages and the public exposure that had accompanied his career for decades, those images showed Piero in a much more intimate facet: that of a grandfather.
After his death, those photographs and the memory of that song that Ámbar particularly enjoyed remain part of a family history threaded with music. A bond between grandfather and granddaughter that found in songs a very personal way to meet.
