Marina Borensztein and Oscar Martínez: The Love Story That Began in a Tree and Turns 20

27 August 2026

Twenty years ago, Marina Borensztein and Oscar Martínez met in a place that was very meaningful to her: the tree planted in homage to her father, Tato Bores, in Parque Tres de Febrero. What began as a coincidence soon blossomed into a love story that spanned two decades, included a wedding, a blended family, and a move abroad.

The anniversary found the couple settled in Marbella, Spain, where for some years they have been building a new phase of life. But Marina chose to look back to celebrate the journey so far and share with her followers a deeply personal reflection.

Today we celebrate 20 years of history together since we met at my dad’s tree, guided by the beyond and starting this journey together,” the author wrote on Instagram, along with several photographs of different moments shared with the actor.

The post was not merely a declaration of love. Marina also answered, in her own way, a question posed by her daughter Malena: “What is the key to 20 years?”

Her answer included some of the concepts that, according to her, sustained their bond: love, patience, companionship, desire, humor, individual projects, and, above all, the decision to choose each other again.

Twenty years don’t mean that everything has been perfect; they mean there was enough love, desire, humor, patience, and the will to keep writing the story,” she wrote.

An encounter Marina felt like a sign

The story began on August 19, 2006. As they have recounted on several occasions, they crossed paths at Tres de Febrero Park in Buenos Aires. Oscar had gone out for a run and Marina for a walk. The place was not just any spot for her: it was the little square named after Tato Bores.

After that initial encounter, they began exchanging emails and not long after started a relationship. A year later they decided to move in together.

But for Marina that episode carried a spiritual dimension. In various interviews she has said she had a dream related to Oscar and felt that that encounter in front of her father’s tree carried a sense of destiny.

That is why, twenty years later, she chose to revisit that moment for the anniversary: “we met at the father’s tree, assisted by the beyond”, she wrote.

The early years and the rumors that surrounded the romance

The onset of their relationship was accompanied by rumors. At the time it circulated that Marina was still with Alejandro Awada, who was also a friend of Oscar and worked with him on the play Días contados.

Years later, Marina publicly addressed those versions and denied that there had been any infidelity.

In 2019 she asserted that, contrary to what had been said, she had not had anything with Oscar while she was with Awada and she maintained that she never felt the need to publicly debunk the circulating rumors.

Over time, those rumors faded as the couple solidified their relationship.

Five years later came the wedding

On August 19, 2011, exactly five years after that first encounter, Marina and Oscar were married at the Algodón Mansión hotel in Buenos Aires.

The ceremony was intimate, bringing together family and friends. Marina also played an active role in the organization: she became her own wedding planner and personally oversaw many of the details.

Years later she would recall that moment with enthusiasm. “It was an absolute pleasure, marrying at 44 years old allowed me to enjoy the entire process fully,” she had said.

The wedding also carried a symbolic component: a friend of Marina, Ana María Bovo, was entrusted with narrating the story of how they had met, including that encounter in the Tato Bores square.

A blended family

When they began their relationship, both already had children from previous ties. Oscar was the father of four daughters, while Marina was the mother of Malena.

Over the years, the blended family became a central part of their daily life. Oscar explained that Malena lived with him from the age of seven until twenty-two or twenty-three, and that his bond with her was very close.

The family also influenced the significant decisions they made as a couple, including leaving Argentina to settle in Spain.

The life change and Marbella

After many years in Buenos Aires, Marina and Oscar decided to begin a new chapter in Marbella.

The couple built a quieter life there, surrounded by nature, and a home that reflects some of Marina’s interests: bright spaces, plants, a functional kitchen, and a lush garden. The house became a sanctuary for both of them and a common backdrop for the writer’s posts.

Deciding to move meant leaving behind a life built over decades and starting anew in another country. Yet it was an experience they both embraced as part of a shared project.

“Choosing each other again” after 20 years

In her anniversary post, Marina expressed something that goes beyond celebrating a date.

When her daughter asked her what the key was to sustaining a relationship for 20 years, she replied: “Love, patience, choosing each other again whenever there is distance, being true teammates and doing things for the other to make them feel good.”

She also stressed the importance of enjoying time together, making plans, and, at the same time, that each person could keep “their own life project.”

And she added a thought about personal responsibility within a partnership: “Being emotionally aware means seeing your own flaws, not only the flaws of the other person.”

For Marina, there was also one ingredient she did not want to leave out: “Oh! And really liking each other a lot!”

The writer closed her message with a definition that sums up her view of these 20 years: “Twenty years don’t mean everything has been perfect.” For her, the true value lies in there having been enough love, desire, humor, patience, and willingness to keep writing the story.

I love you,” she told Oscar.

And so, two decades after that encounter at the Tato Bores tree, Marina Borensztein and Oscar Martínez continue choosing each other. Not because they envision a perfect tale, but because they are building something together that, as she herself wrote, still has chapters left to be written.
