There are voices that survive the passage of time. Sandro’s is one of them. His songs continue to play, but so do his words, the way he spoke about love and that unique connection he built with several generations.
With the aim of reclaiming that legacy, Radio Buenos Aires AM 1350 launched “August with Sandro”, a special production that traverses the entire station’s programming. The project brings together more than 120 songs selected and contextualized, original scripts and restored historical interviews so that the Gypsy could tell his own stories again.
“Echoes of Sandro”: the work behind recovering his voice
One of the great novelties of the 2026 edition is “Echoes of Sandro”, a series of audio pieces created from original interviews preserved in different archives.
The selection was led by Andrea Pegazzini, while Fernando, from DiscoRadio, carried out the editing and sonic restoration. The overall production was developed by Radio Buenos Aires AM 1350.
These are not full interviews, but excerpts of between 40 seconds and a minute in which Sandro speaks in his own voice about topics that continue to resonate with the audience: love, life, loneliness, time, success, dreams, and the human condition.
The pieces are incorporated into the commercial blocks to turn those minutes into a space of cultural and emotional content.
More than 120 songs chosen one by one
The proposal is not limited to replaying the artist’s greatest hits. The station compiled a selection of more than 120 songs, spanning classics, ballads, rock, duets, rarities, recovered recordings and tracks linked to films and concerts.
Each song comes with an original script that provides information about its history, its context and the emotional bond it managed to build with the audience.
Thus, “August with Sandro” seeks to move away from the platform’s automatic recommendations and reaffirm human editorial judgment.
“Today many musical decisions are shaped by algorithms that predict what people should listen to. We choose something else: human judgment,” explained Gastón Gaspar, Programming Manager of Radio Buenos Aires.
A full day dedicated to Sandro
The central moment of the tribute will arrive on August 19, when all programming of Radio Buenos Aires AM 1350 will be devoted to Sandro, from 6 a.m. to midnight.
Throughout the day his songs, testimonies, stories, memories and fragments of the recovered interviews will be heard.
“Sandro was not only a singer. He opened the path for rock in Argentina and, at the same time, he knew how to reinvent himself again and again, as generations of Argentines did. He is our King. He is our Elvis. And he deserves a tribute of this magnitude,” Gaspar stated.
Sandro, a voice that still moves
“August with Sandro” began two years ago at the request of listeners themselves. In this new edition, the incorporation of restored interviews allows us to glimpse another dimension of the artist: not only the idol on stage, but also the man who reflected on emotions, bonds and the passage of time.
The proposal blends memory, music and journalistic inquiry to bring his work closer to those who grew up listening to him and also to new generations.
Because Sandro was not only a fundamental figure of Argentine popular music. He was one of its great emotional narrators. And now, thanks to the recovery of his archives, his voice returns to the radio to tell his own story.
