Heartbreaking Video: Lucas Trejo Remembers Wife and Children Killed in Venezuela Earthquake

18 July 2026

Lucas Trejo reopened his most intimate album to remember his wife, Yanina Maranella, and his children, Aarón and Ainhoa, who died in the earthquakes that rocked Venezuela. This time, the Argentine footballer shared a family video recorded before the tragedy and accompanied it with a message shaped by love, faith, and the hope of reuniting with them.

The footage was published in his Instagram stories and shows various moments of the family in La Guaira, the city where they lived due to Trejo’s work at Club Sport Marítimo. With the vast sea in the background, the images capture everyday scenes that today take on a deeply moving meaning.

The emotional tribute from Lucas Trejo to his family

In the first part of the video, Lucas appears beside his son Aarón and suggests a simple activity: “Father-to-son questions”. Then he asks what he thinks about Venezuela and how he feels there.

“I feel very good and I like and I love this view I have right here beside me”, the boy replies while admiring the landscape. Later, when his dad asks him what he thinks of Jesus, Aarón answers: “I think Jesus already needs to bless this place because this place is very beautiful”.

The footballer also asks him to imagine what message he would send to his schoolmates or his football teammates. “I would tell him to pray to Jesus, because Jesus is very good”, the youngster replies.

In another part of the video, Yanina Maranella and Ainhoa appear. “Here we are with Ainu and we’re going to do a girls’ ping-pong segment”, the mom says at the start of the recording.

She then asks her daughter how she’s doing in La Guaira and whether she likes the sea and the view. “Yes,” replies Ainhoa, before adding a line that is especially moving today: “I love this view and, thank you Jesus, for this view that is so beautiful”.

Yanina continues the conversation with tenderness: “How lovely, Jesus. Thank you for the beautiful view that you gift us with Ainu”. She then asks her daughter if she wants to leave a message for other girls her age. “That I love you very much and thank you for giving me this very beautiful view”, the little one replies before saying goodbye with her mother.

The message of faith that accompanied the video

About those images, Lucas Trejo wrote a deeply heartfelt message in which he again expressed how he endures the pain of losing his family.

“I had prayed for a long time and told God that nothing would separate me from Him in this world”, he began.

Then he added: “My family and I were clear about this, and we settled in Venezuela so that people could know Christ; that will continue to be so”.

The footballer completed his reflection with a line filled with hope: “And when God finishes the work He wants to do with me and through me, I am certain that I will meet my family again”.

Finally, he reaffirmed his faith and once again dedicated a few words to Yanina, Aarón, and Ainhoa: “I believe in Jesus Christ, I believe in the work He did on the cross for us, I believe in Eternity and I know that my family is with Him. I love them, every day, forever”.

A tragedy that moved Venezuela and Argentina

The post arrives just days after Lucas Trejo shared his first message on social media following the confirmation of his wife and two children’s deaths. On that occasion, he had posted a family photo accompanied by a brief and heartbreaking phrase: “I love you, every day, forever”.

The tragedy occurred while the defender from Córdoba was in training with his team in Caracas, where he was scheduled to play a match for the Venezuela Cup. After the earthquakes, he returned immediately to La Guaira to search for his family, who were in the Cumanagotto building in the Playa Grande area. For several days he participated in rescue and debris-removal efforts, clinging to the hope of finding them alive, until the worst outcome was finally confirmed.
