The last day of Eduardo “El Polaco” Groh Riemersma unfolded as many others in his life did: surrounded by dogs, tending to their needs and busy with various tasks tied to rescue and animal protection.
But on Thursday, August 27, that routine ended unexpectedly. The animal protector died at 49 years old after suffering a serious motorcycle accident in Santiago del Estero.
Hours earlier, he had taken several of the dogs from El Montecito de los Canichones to a dog grooming salon. He had also handed out food at other shelters and, during that journey, rescued a street dog he named Martina.
That sequence of images and activities acquired, after his death, an entirely different meaning: they were among the last moments of a life dedicated almost entirely to animals.
