Shortly after news of Esteban Lamothe and Débora Nishimoto’s engagement became public, the actor couple took part in an interview with LAM (America) that was aired on Tuesday, October 6. There, they shared details of the marriage proposal and previewed how the wedding they will celebrate in December this year would be like.
When asked about how the proposal had been, both recalled that it occurred on the last day of 2015, while they were celebrating New Year’s Eve together on a trip. The actor had planned to pop the question that night, but nerves got the better of him and he decided to move ahead.
“I had the rings already in my backpack since the 23rd and I didn’t want her to see them because I was going to give them to her on the 31st,” Lamothe said.
The actor also acknowledged that he was very nervous and expectant. Although Débora said that at that moment she hadn’t noticed his anxiety, she later understood that probably that was the reason he decided to propose earlier than planned.
“I think I was planning to tell me later, I wanted to tell myself at twelve, and nerves got to me and I told her as soon as she woke up from her nap,” Nishimoto recalled.
The proposal was as spontaneous as it was surprising. Lamothe had told his partner that there was “something” inside the backpack and managed to coax her closer to discover the engagement rings.
What the Wedding of Esteban Lamothe and Débora Nishimoto Will Be Like
The celebration will take place in December and will have an intimate format, surrounded by their closest family and friends. “Yes, small. Friends and family, really the people we want there most,” Débora explained.
While both are certain about the decision, Lamothe acknowledged that organizing a wedding necessarily means leaving some people off the guest list.
“As for me, I’m almost 50 years old; I have many friends because I’ve worked a lot. But somewhere you have to cut the list,” the actor said.
The couple also explained how the ceremony will be. Although they have different beliefs—Débora is atheist and Lamothe is Catholic—they chose to marry civilly. Nevertheless, the actor plans to ask a priest to bless them, a decision Nishimoto fully respects.
The Honeymoon and the Trip to Japan
Besides talking about the wedding, the actors shared some details about the honeymoon. At first, they will take a “little” trip as soon as the celebration ends, though they have in mind making a trip to Japan at a later date.
The destination is particularly meaningful for Débora, who has repeatedly expressed her desire to visit the country and connect with part of her roots and traditions.
Asked about what their look for the wedding will be, the actress was decisive: she will go “in white.” She even mentioned that at first she showed some details and designs to her fiancé, until someone warned her that it wasn’t advisable to do so and she decided not to share them with him any longer.
For his part, Lamothe already has an idea for his own outfit. The actor said he is thinking of wearing a dark blue tuxedo, a choice that takes into account that the celebration will run from day into night.
In this way, Esteban Lamothe and Débora Nishimoto are entering a new stage of their relationship, marked by the engagement, the wedding preparations, and the excitement of celebrating together with the most important people to them.
