Amalia Granata Opens Up About Tough Moment After Mammogram: I Had to Get a Biopsy

17 October 2026

Amalia Granata shared a personal health-related experience that raised concerns. During a session of the Santa Fe Chamber of Deputies, the legislator revealed that she had to undergo a biopsy on her left breast after a mammogram and supplementary tests detected abnormalities that required a deeper evaluation.

The deputy explained that it all began during her annual gynecological exams. What seemed like a routine checkup led to new medical tests and the indication to perform a biopsy to analyze the breast tissue.

“Hace un tiempo me tuve que hacer el chequeo anual que se hacen todas las mujeres: Papanicolaou, ecografía, mamografía. Y resultó ser que la mamografía salió mal. Entonces el médico me mandó a hacer una ampliada”, relató.

And she added: “In the extended imaging it came back poorly again, there were carcinomas, and the doctor called me urgently to have a biopsy on the left breast“.

According to her, after the results of the initial tests, her doctor advised performing a biopsy to obtain material and analyze it. The procedure involved several punctures, so she had to follow medical instructions and rest.

During her testimony, Granata also shared that the wait for a diagnosis was a difficult moment for her and her loved ones. The uncertainty about what the studies might reveal caused concern in her close circle.

Finally, the legislator confirmed that she had already received the results and that the lesions were benign. “The result came back and the lesions are benign. A relief, thank God,” she stated.

The news brought her relief after days of worry she had endured. In sharing her experience, she also sought to convey a message about the importance of paying attention to health and not postponing medical checkups.

The disclosure occurred within the framework of Pink October, the month dedicated to awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

Granata used her intervention to highlight the value of regular checkups and to call for strengthening prevention campaigns. She also recalled that her studies from the previous year had yielded normal results and stressed the importance of detecting any alterations in time.

“Rather than promoting party politics so much, promote breast cancer prevention, because when detected early it can be cured,” she told her colleagues, apologizing for missing the session.

In addition, she noted that there are public facilities where women can undergo medical checkups without needing private health coverage.

On her social media, the deputy shared the video of her intervention and explained why she had decided to make her experience public. “I want to share a personal experience so that we all have the opportunity for prevention,” she wrote.

At the end of her account, Granata also reflected on how the uncertainty led her to put daily worries into perspective. “I am not afraid of dying, I am afraid of dying and not having lived,” she said.

With her testimony, the legislator sought to emphasize the importance of medical checkups and the need to act when any result requires additional studies.
