A year after his debut at the helm of Chanel, Matthieu Blazy returned to the Grand Palais with a collection that confirms the direction he wants to take the house: honoring its history without turning it into a rigid formula.

For Spring-Summer 2027, the designer envisioned a universe suspended between sky and earth, with enormous birds gliding above the runway and a staging that foreshadowed the show’s central concept: to fly, to move, and to feel free.

The music complemented that contrast between tradition and pop culture, with a soundtrack capable of shifting from The Carnival of the Animals, by Saint-Saëns, to Gimme More, by Britney Spears. And that same blend found its way into the garments.

El tweed de Chanel se vuelve más liviano
One of the collection’s principal protagonists was, naturally, tweed, though reinterpreted with less structure and greater movement.

Blazy took one of Chanel’s most recognizable materials and brought it to relaxed silhouettes, minis, cropped jackets and ensembles that seemed designed to accompany the body rather than impose a shape.

The idea of lightness threaded through almost the entire collection, a quest that had already appeared in Blazy’s early work for the house. Chanel officially defines this season as its Spring-Summer 2027 collection, while early critics highlight precisely that intention to refresh the brand’s historic codes.
Transparencias, flores y layering
The light cardigans, floral embroidery and nearly transparent fabrics built some of the collection’s most delicate looks on the runway.

There were also fitted blouses cinched at the waist with slim ribbons, paired with pencil skirts, light tops and layered pieces. The result was a sophisticated layering that never felt heavy.

Nature reappeared as inspiration through florals, textures and prints, reinforcing that sense of a collection in perpetual motion.
Chanel Red Returns to the Forefront

Among softer tones and prints emerged one of the house’s iconic chromatic codes: red. It first appeared in small accents and then took center stage in shirts, blazers and entire head-to-toe looks.

One of the most striking outfits was a set of red sequins that, despite the shine, kept a fluid and relaxed silhouette. A way to prove that sequins can step out of the night realm and into a much more everyday wardrobe.

Animal print y estampados: el maximalismo también puede ser Chanel

If there was one takeaway from this collection, it’s that the woman Matthieu Blazy imagines for Chanel does not necessarily want to go unnoticed.

There were nature-inspired prints, lush embroidery, and tall boots printed with designs that blended into a single look.

Far from the minimalist mood that dominated several recent seasons, the proposal celebrates mixing, color and ornament, always woven with the house’s savoir-faire.

Las minis regresan con fuerza

The miniskirts also took a prominent place. Paired with cropped jackets, cardigans or tweed pieces, they brought a much younger energy to Chanel’s classic preppy universe.

Lengths shortened, silhouettes loosened, and some of the brand’s most traditional combinations took on an unexpectedly informal attitude.
Vestidos asimétricos y un cielo convertido en estampado
Toward the end, the scenography concept effectively translated directly into the clothing. Dresses with uneven hems, flowing fabrics, and prints that seemed to reproduce skies and clouds appeared.

Blazy’s message was fairly clear: Chanel’s codes can remain recognizable without being trapped in the past.

After a year at the helm of the house, the designer seems to have found his own formula: preserve what made Chanel Chanel — the tweed, the jackets, the red, the embroidery, the pearls, the minis — and remove solemnity.
The result for Spring-Summer 2027 is a collection lighter, more spontaneous and also freer.
