The long day of walking toward the Basilica of Luján, marked by challenging weather, produced unforgettable moments. One of them featured Nelson Castro, the 71-year-old journalist who once again demonstrated his willingness to put himself on the line and take part in events and demanding spaces.
The journalist was broadcasting for TN while walking the streets alongside the crowd. At one point, the pilgrims surrounding him began to cheer him on and paid him an unexpected tribute through a series of chants in which they shouted his name.
Among the tears of some individuals, the applause, and the cries of affection, Castro expressed his gratitude for the kindness he received. The journalist held hands with those who approached to greet him and also posed for photos with various pilgrims who wanted to carry a memory of that encounter.
The Emotion of Nelson Castro during the Pilgrimage to Luján
The moment deeply moved the journalist, who could not hide his emotion in the face of the displays of affection.
“I can’t even describe it… This is very moving,” he said during the broadcast, making clear that he did not expect such a display of affection from the people he encountered along the journey.
The journalist also noted that among those who came forward to greet him there were people much younger than him. That detail caught his attention and underscored the broad audience that has accompanied him for years on television.
The emotion was such that at times Castro could not continue speaking on air. However, the unexpected tribute from the pilgrims ended up becoming one of the most moving moments of his day and a memory that will undoubtedly be associated with his career in journalism.
