The tragedy that ended the life of Jonathan Samuel Meléndez Ochoa, the keyboardist and founder of Camilo Séptimo, also touched his family. Among the victims of the crime that took place in a home in Atizapán de Zaragoza, State of Mexico, was his wife, Ana Paula Barragán, 35 years old.
The woman was five months pregnant and was mother to a three-year-old daughter, who also died during the attack. A fourth victim was a 21-year-old woman who, according to early reports, was performing domestic chores at the residence.
Unlike Jonathan, who had a career tied to music and some public exposure, Ana Paula led a much more private life. Her name began to come to light only after the crime that shocked the Mexican music scene.

Initial official reports identified the victim as Ana Paola “N”, but on social networks she appeared as Ana Paula Barragán.
She was 35 years old and was the partner of Jonathan Meléndez. Together they had formed a family and had a three-year-old daughter. At the time of her death, Ana Paula was also five months pregnant.

Her Relationship with Jonathan Meléndez
The love story between Ana Paula and Jonathan was primarily known through the posts the musician shared on his social networks.
Although he was a recognized figure within the Mexican music scene for his work as a keyboardist, composer and producer, his wife stayed away from the stage and from media exposure.
Jonathan also used to affectionately refer to her as “Paulita” in some of his posts.
The couple had built a family life away from the public eye and shared the upbringing of their young daughter. In recent months, they were also expecting the arrival of a new family member.

The contrast between Jonathan’s public exposure and Ana Paula’s private profile was striking.
While the musician pursued his career with Camilo Séptimo, a band he founded in 2013 that became a reference in Mexican synth-pop and alternative rock, Ana Paula did not have a public presence linked to her husband’s artistic activity.

The Crime That Ended Ana Paula’s and Her Family’s Lives
Ana Paula, Jonathan, and the other victims were found dead inside an apartment located in the Grand Viure residential complex, in the Esmeralda Zone of Atizapán de Zaragoza.
According to official reports, Jonathan was found bound and shot in the head. His wife had also been murdered.
The couple’s three-year-old daughter died in the same episode, as did a 21-year-old woman who, according to El Universal, worked as a housekeeper at the residence.
The family dog was also found dead.
In the home, authorities also found a six-year-old boy alive, who, according to the Secretariat of Security, showed no signs of violence. His identity and his relation to the victims were not publicly disclosed.
The Investigation
The State of Mexico’s General Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation to determine what happened inside the residence and to establish the crime’s motive.
Authorities indicated they were examining the possible involvement of two men and that one of them may have used a trusting relationship with the victims to gain access to the home.
Among the hypotheses being explored is the possibility of a robbery, although the investigation is ongoing and the motive had not yet been definitively established at the time of the initial reports.
