Beauty After 45: What’s Behind the Trends and What Science Says

2 September 2026

Talking about beauty after 45 is not just about creams, treatments, or trends. The skin changes, the body changes too, and new priorities emerge. In the midst of a huge amount of information—and misinformation—about aging and aesthetics, distinguishing what has scientific backing from what simply responds to a fashion trend is becoming increasingly important.

That will be one of the axes that Andrea Rey will bring this Saturday to Experience BEST. A medical doctor specializing in Dermatology, Aesthetic Medicine and facial harmonization, in addition to a trainer in injectables, she will give a talk titled “The Science Behind Beauty”, designed especially for the general public.

Andrea Rey: Bringing Clinic Science to the Public

Participation in BEST represents for the specialist a challenge different from her usual conferences and medical education spaces. Her scientific and teaching work is mainly aimed at colleagues, so this time the proposal will be to speak directly with the public.

“I feel a lot of enthusiasm and a particular joy, because it’s a setting different from the one I usually share,” Rey explains. And she adds that what she enjoys most about the encounter is precisely that possibility of translation: “Take everything we work on daily with scientific rigor and translate it into accessible, approachable language, without losing depth.”

To prepare the talk, she says she thinks about the questions she routinely receives, but also about the myths and the anxiety that the amount of information circulating around beauty and aging can generate.

“Among so much anxiety and confusion, knowledge, knowing, is a power that allows us to reach the real objective,” she asserts.

What Happens to the Skin After 45

The talk will be especially aimed at women between 45 and 55 years old, a stage in which, according to Rey, the body, the skin, and priorities undergo significant changes.

The proposal will be to view aesthetics from a place different from fashion. What is true behind certain trends, what belongs to the realm of myths, and why the skin can reflect processes that go far beyond cosmetics.

The skin reflects much deeper processes—hormonal, metabolic, lifestyle-related—that go far beyond cosmetics,” explains the specialist.

Thus, skin care appears connected with a broader view of well-being and the passage of time, in line with the holistic proposal of this second edition of BEST.

An Aesthetic Perspective Without Chasing a Standard

Another point that runs through Rey’s approach is the relationship between aesthetic treatments and one’s own image. For the specialist, the goal should not be to respond to a predetermined standard, but to find a version of oneself with which there is identification.

“That objective is not to meet a standard, but to find how to reach that self-image that generates identification, that improves self-esteem, to feel comfortable with your own version at each stage of life,” she affirms.

From that perspective, information occupies a central place. Knowing the options, understanding what is being done and having criteria to decide are part of medical guidance.

“This is essentially about guiding to make good decisions, with science, order and enjoyment,” she summarizes.

Beauty as Part of a Holistic View

Rey’s intervention will be one of the pieces of an agenda that aims to cross different specialties around the concept of Positive Aging. In this second edition, Experience BEST expands its reach beyond dermatology and incorporates topics such as epigenetics, hormones, beauty, biohacking, desire, intimate health and well-being.

In that context, dermatology provides a specific look at the skin, but in dialogue with other areas such as gynecology, endocrinology and longevity.

“It will be a dermatological contribution within an integrated perspective,” Rey explains, who also highlights the format of the meeting: an afternoon designed to bring these topics closer in a friendly environment and to share the experience with other people.

Her conclusion returns to the starting point: aesthetics not as a race against time, but as a tool to accompany the changes of each stage.

“It is the essence of what we do every day in aesthetic dermatology: to help someone find their own version, at every moment, with science, care and discernment.

Experience BEST takes place this Saturday, September 5, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires.
