The tragedy suffered by a family from Alejandro Korn during their vacation in Jujuy added a new fatal victim. Lorena Paola González, 33, died in the latest hours at Pablo Soria Hospital in San Salvador de Jujuy, where she had been hospitalized since the accident that occurred on the Lipán Hill. The news was confirmed by local and national media.
Lorena had suffered gravely serious injuries when the pickup truck she was traveling in with her family fell more than 80 meters down a ravine. Days after the crash, doctors had confirmed that she was brain dead.
Her death came just one day after the severity of her condition became publicly known. In this way, the family lost a mother and a daughter in the same accident: Silvia Rosana Amaro, 58, had died at the scene as a result of the fall.
The tragedy that began during a vacation
The family had traveled from Alejandro Korn, in the San Vicente district toward the Argentine north to enjoy a few days of rest. It was comprised of Narciso González, 60 years old; his wife, Silvia Rosana Amaro; their children Favio Hernán González, 31, and Lorena, 33; and Augusto Coda, 34, Lorena’s partner.
They had arrived in Salta a few days earlier and planned to tour various tourist sites in Salta and Jujuy. For the trip they had rented a pickup truck.
The accident occurred on Sunday, August 16, at kilometer 30 of National Route 52, in the area known as Lipán Hill. For reasons that are still under investigation, the vehicle left the road and ended up plunging down a ravine of about 80 meters.
Silvia died at the scene and Lorena remained hospitalized
The impact was tremendously violent. Silvia Rosana Amaro was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The other four occupants were transferred to the Pablo Soria Hospital in San Salvador de Jujuy to receive medical care. Among them was Lorena, who sustained injuries of extreme gravity.
As the hours passed, her condition deteriorated until doctors confirmed that she was brain dead. The family then faced a particularly painful situation: while saying farewell to Silvia, they awaited Lorena’s progression, which ultimately died this Wednesday.
Who were the members of Alejandro Korn’s family
The family is well known in Alejandro Korn, where they live in the Santa Ana neighborhood. Narciso González and his son Favio work in an auto parts shop located on Route 210.
Lorena, for her part, worked with her partner, Augusto Coda, at a financial services company, and the two lived in Villa del Parque, according to information released after the accident.
The family had shared photographs during the trip, moments that, up to then, were part of a vacation that had begun with the expectation of touring the northern Argentine landscapes.
What is known about the Lipán Hill accident
The mechanics of the accident are not yet determined. According to information disseminated by outlets that spoke with relatives, Favio was the one driving the pickup and does not remember how the ravine occurred.
The young man would only retain the memory of navigating a curve and then being rescued by the teams that arrived at the scene.
The Justice ordered expert investigations to try to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. Among other points, the condition of the pickup and the road conditions will be analyzed to reconstruct the moments prior to the fall.
With Lorena’s death, the accident that began as a family vacation ended leaving two fatalities: a mother and her daughter, while the investigation continues to determine how the tragedy occurred.
