From the airport, Lapegüe shared a video of the farewell moment and, alongside the footage, wrote an extensive message dedicated to his son.
“Today @franlapegue it’s time to say goodbye to you. Today you face your greatest challenge. Always in silence. Always under the radar amid our family of crazies,” he began.

In his post, the journalist especially highlighted the effort Franco made to reach this moment. He explained that his son studied and worked at the same time and prepared for a long time to achieve this goal.
“Your tremendous average in college wasn’t enough to stop you. You studied a degree while you worked. It was all effort. You stayed reading on weekends. I didn’t know what you were aiming for. (Now I know, you were preparing to fulfill another dream.)”, he wrote.
Then he recalled the moment when Franco finally told him what dream he had quietly been pursuing.
“Until that day, after taking a large number of exams you waited for me at the doorstep and told me I APPLIED TO HARVARD. I’m going to do an MBA in Business Administration”.
“I cried. And I cry now when I see you go”
The news brought immense joy to the whole family, but the start of this new chapter also implies a distance that, for Lapegüe, is not easy.
“It’s the most important university in the world. You will study and live on campus, where eight former presidents of the United States studied and more than 160 Nobel prizes were awarded. I cried. And I cry now when I see you go,” he expressed.
The journalist also referred to the strong family bond they share and how hard it is for him to see him leave.
“We are a very close-knit family; what we are going through is very intense,” he said.
Things Sergio Lapegüe Will Miss About Franco
Beyond the pride for the challenge his son is about to start, Lapegüe also spoke about the small everyday things that will now pause.
“I’m going to miss our walks through our usual Lomas and the lifelong gym afternoons,” he wrote.
However, rather than experiencing the distance solely through nostalgia, he chose to see it as part of Franco’s growth.
“But growth is growth, and growing hurts,” he reflected.
And he left a wish for this new phase: “I only wish that you be happy. Enjoy every step.”
