The London Fashion Week once again proved why it remains one of the most captivating stages on the international circuit. From September 17 to 21, established designers and newcomers presented their spring-summer 2027 proposals, in an edition that blended experimentation, craftsmanship, and garments with real potential to move into everyday wardrobes.
There were important returns, such as McQueen back in London, as well as new collections from Burberry, Simone Rocha, Erdem, Paul Costelloe and numerous emerging talents. And although each designer built their own universe, there were some coincidences capable of forecasting how we will dress next summer.
These are six trends that London has just put on the radar.
1. The skirt regains volume
Everything suggests there is still much to say about the balloon silhouette.
After establishing itself with force in previous seasons, skirts and dresses with balloon hems return for Spring-Summer 2027, this time with even greater emphasis on the materials and the construction of the volume.
Simone Rocha and Paul Costelloe were among the labels that turned to this silhouette, confirming that the balloon skirt will continue to function as an alternative to straight, minimalist lines.
What’s the key to wearing it off the runway? Let it be the focal point. A balloon skirt works especially well with fitted tees, simple shirts, tank tops, or lightweight fabrics, creating a play of proportions between the cleaner upper part and the voluminous lower half.
And it won’t be reserved solely for party dresses. The aim for 2027 is to incorporate it into daytime wardrobes as well.
2. Pistachio green: the color that promises to conquer summer
Among the neutrals, a shade appeared aimed at brightening the upcoming season: pistachio green.
The collection of Patrick McDowell was one of the proposals that brought it to the foreground and positioned it as a candidate to become one of the standout colors of Summer 2027.
Softer than lime green and brighter than olive, it has a major advantage: it can function as the hero of a total look or appear in smaller doses.
For those who aren’t ready to wear it head-to-toe, it’s enough to incorporate it into a bag, sandals, a shirt, or a top. Paired with white, cream or beige it takes on a delicate air; alongside chocolate or black, the contrast becomes much more sophisticated.
It’s also one of those colors that instantly conveys a sense of freshness, so it has all the ingredients to become a favorite in the warm months.
3. Flowers printed or emerging from the print, turning 3D
Flowers will continue to be protagonists, but there’s an important change: it’s no longer enough to just print them.
In London, flowers appeared built in relief, applied onto garments and practically transformed into small textile sculptures.
Brands and designers such as Susan Fang, Pauline Dujancourt, Petra Fagerström and Steve O Smith explored this resource, pushing floral romance into a much more tactile and theatrical realm.
They appeared on dresses and garments, but the trend also holds a lot of potential for accessories, bags and shoes.
It’s an evolution of the floral appliqués that have been appearing for several seasons: for Summer 2027, the flowers want to detach from the fabric and gain volume.
A perfect tool to transform even the simplest design.
4. The 1980s shoulder pads return
At the other end of romanticism, a much stronger and more structured trend appears: XL shoulder pads.
Tailoring remains foundational, but the relaxed silhouettes that ruled for several seasons begin to coexist with more defined shoulders, cinched waists, and an aesthetic that directly nods to the ’80s.
McQueen was one of the most striking examples. In its return to London, Seán McGirr worked with the British tailoring tradition and revived strong shoulder constructions within a collection that fused classical references with London’s rave culture.
The good news is that you don’t need to carry the runway’s extreme proportions into everyday wear.
A blazer with defined shoulders, worn with jeans, wide-leg trousers or even a midi skirt, is enough to update a look and give it a much more pronounced silhouette.
5. Intense red: the color that again dominates summer
Red is shaping up as one of the major protagonists for Spring-Summer 2027. Intense, energetic, and with a strong presence, it appeared on the runway in both total looks and in dresses, tailoring, and accessories, confirming that it will remain one of the most powerful tones in the wardrobe.
Its greatest strength lies in the fact that it doesn’t need much to make an impact. A simple-cut red dress, a tailored pant, or a shirt in this shade are enough to completely transform an outfit.
It also works very well paired with neutrals. With white it feels fresher and more summery; with black, more sophisticated; and with camel or beige it gains a softer elegance.
For those who prefer a gradual introduction, accessories are the best entry point: a bag, shoes, sunglasses or even a red lipstick can add the trend without needing to wear it head-to-toe.
After several seasons of muted tones and natural palettes, red returns with a clear message: Summer 2027 wants color, presence, and looks that don’t go unnoticed.
6. Stripes: the classic print is renewed
The stripes reclaim a central place among the Spring-Summer 2027 trends, but this time they appear with a much more graphic, prominent perspective. Far from being confined to the classic nautical style, they’re worn on dresses, shirts, suits and tailoring pieces with bolder color combinations.
The novelty lies in playing with the direction, width and scale of the lines. Vertical stripes that slim, horizontal stripes that add volume, and mixes of different proportions turn this print into a visual tool within the look.
To wear them in everyday life, they work very well with solid pieces that balance the ensemble. A striped shirt with white pants, a printed skirt with a neutral top, or a striped blazer over a monochrome look are easy and effective formulas.
They can also be used in a total look, especially when sharing the same color palette. In that case, the result becomes more modern and sophisticated.
Versatile and timeless, stripes prove once again that classics don’t disappear: they reinvent themselves.
London forecasts a summer of contrasts
If there was one lesson this Fashion Week left, it’s that Summer 2027 will not have a single aesthetic.
On one side, there are three-dimensional flowers, balloon volumes, and bright colors; on the other, a return to stronger, more structured tailoring. Even Burberry blended for the new season its British codes with floral prints and more playful silhouettes, in collaboration with the historic textile designer Celia Birtwell.
The conclusion is a fashion that is much less rigid: romance and structure, craft and functionality, statement pieces and easy-to-wear basics.
And although these collections will officially arrive with Spring-Summer 2027, London has already left several ideas that can be started to be incorporated well in advance.
